Republic Day1
On 26th January 1950 we became a Republic. It is the day we proclaimed to the world that we are a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic and our constitution came into force. Republic Day, in a lay man’s term is a day when our constitution got working. This is the day when we got our "rights" and "duties". They were given to us as a part of the democratic and republic setup.

As a kid Republic day was always special to me, yes! there was the holiday thing and also the Republic Day parade which I used to sit back and enjoy. A republic day parade is much more than showcasing your weapons, army and people to the world!! It marks the independence of our nation in terms of defence, technology and other strategic areas. The various presentations depicting the endless art forms and the people of various states reminds us that "India is still a nation with many colors".

And let me not forget the patriotic songs that were the order of the day on Radio and Television. The songs promote communal harmony and bring a sense of pride for the country in the heart of its citizens.

There are many gems out there but here is one song which always make me feel proud as an Indian..
Jahan daal-daal par sone ki chidiyaa karti hai baseraa
woh bhaarat desh hai meraa
jahan satya, ahinsaa aur dharm ka pag-pag lagataa Deraa
woh bhaarat desh hai meraa
This song from Sikander-E-Azam, beautifully sung by Mohammed Rafi aptly describes the Rich India. A beautifully worded song which gives ample satisfaction to an Indian to be proud of its rich heritage, tradition and prosperity... truly a Masterpiece..

Happy Republic Day to all my fellow Indians..

Jai Hind!!
