Monday Monday (tra la la) |
Monday, July 31, 2006 |
Monday, Monday, can't trust that day Monday, Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way Oh Monday mornin' you gave me no warnin' of what was to be Oh Monday, Monday, how could you leave and not take me
Every other day, every other day Every other day of the week is fine, yeah But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes A-you can find me cryin' all of the time
Monday, Monday, so good to me Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be But Monday mornin', Monday mornin' couldn't guarantee That Monday evenin' you would still be here with me |

The Broker |
Sunday, July 30, 2006 |
In his final hours in the Oval Office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems Backman, in his power broker heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world's most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.
Backman is quietly smuggled out of the country in a military cargo plane, given a new name, a new identity, and a new home in Italy. Eventually, after he has settled into his new life, the CIA will leak his whereabouts to the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese, and the Saudis. Then the CIA will do what it does best: sit back and watch. The question is not whether Backman will survive -there is no chance of that. The question the CIA needs answered is, who will kill him?
My take on the Book - Not one of his best work, but was an OK read. I'm a longtime devoted follower and reader so not saying more than, You're much better than this, just stick to your legal thriller stuff, will you?? managed to learn some Italian words though, thanks Johnny Man!! |

Smiles for U! |
Friday, July 28, 2006 |
This one is just tooooooo cute! It is a forward that I received on "Why God made Mums" and these are the answers given by second grade school children.
Why did God make mothers? 1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is. 2. Mostly to clean the house. 3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.
How did God make mothers? 1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us. 2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring. 3. God made my Mum just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.
What ingredients are mothers made of? 1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean. 2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.
Why did God give you Your mother & not some other mum? 1. We're related. 2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mums like me.
What kind of little girl was your mum? 1. My mum has always been my mum and none of that other stuff. 2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy. 3. They say she used to be nice.
What did mum need to know about dad before she married him? 1. His last name. 2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer? 3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?
Why did your mum marry your dad? 1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mum eats a lot. 2. She got too old to do anything else with him. 3. My grandma says that Mum didn't have her thinking cap on.
Who's the boss at your house? 1. Mum doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball. 2. Mum. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed. 3. I guess Mum is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.
What's the difference between mums & dads? 1. Mums work at work and work at home & dads just go to work at work. 2. Mums know how to talk to teachers without scaring them. 3. Dads are taller & stronger, but mums have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's. 4. Mums have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.
What does your mum do in her spare time? 1. Mothers don't do spare time. 2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.
What would it take to make your mum perfect? 1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery. 2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.
If you could change one thing about your Mum, what would it be? 1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that. 2. I'd make my Mum smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me. 3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.
Hope this brought out smiles for u like it did to me! Oh! children & their innocence....so chuveet! :)
Hmm.. wonder what Anu would say for the above Q’s.. |

Purrrfect Weekend ! |
Monday, July 24, 2006 |
Had a Purrrfect Weekend and the Top reasons are: 1. I didn’t cook or clean much, ghar chalao with minimal maintenance. 2. Had a fiesta of Telugu Movies, watched 3 GOOD ones (Shock, Ghajini & Jai Chiranjeeva) 3. The weather was gorgeous on Saturday, threw open all the windows and doors letting the warmth of sun and at times the cold winds come in. 4. Consumed countless cups of coffee with heaps of Rookie Cookies and Tim Tams (uh oh, what happened to my No. 7 Birthday Resolution???) 5. Curled up on the couch with the book I am reading and didn’t budge from the couch unless I felt the necessity of caffeine. 6. Played with my cute and adorable niece, Aayushi (and yes, u too Anu) 7. Started to watch Teesri Aankh (Gosh! 4 movies in the weekend, not bad for a movie buff). Had to stop it before THE END, you gotta be brain-dead to be watching it, BAKWAAS!! 8. Never been more relaxed. 9. Had a nice hot oil head massage 10. NEVER CARED LESS.
Weather: Warmer than usual! Mind: Happy! Starting the week on an optimistic note. Heart: Content. Body: Full of energy... had too much sugar in Weet-Bix, feeling 'high'. Mood: Upbeat and Cheerful. Reading: The Broker by John Grisham. Song Playing: Ghar Waapas Jab Aaoge by Asad Amanat Ali Khan, a treat for the ears... Hear it to Believe it!! Thought for the Day: No one can go back and make a brand new start. Anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. |

Gone are the days...but not the memories |
Thursday, July 20, 2006 |
Gone are the days When the school reopened in June, And we settled in our new desks and benches.
Gone are the days When we wanted two Sundays and no Mondays, yet Managed to line up daily for the morning prayers.
Gone are the days When we chased one another in the corridors in Intervals, And returned to the classrooms drenched in sweat.
Gone are the days When we had lunch in classrooms, corridors, Playgrounds, under the trees and even on tree branches.
Gone are the days When all the colours in the world, Decorated the campus on the Second Saturdays.
Gone are the days When a single P.T. period in the week's Time Table, Was awaited more eagerly than the monsoons.
Gone are the days When few played "kabadi" and "kho-kho" in scorching sun, While others simply played "book cricket" in the confines of classroom.
Gone are the days Of fights but no conspiracies, Of Competitions but seldom jealousy.
Gone are the days When we used to watch Live Cricket telecast, In the opposite house in Intervals and Lunch breaks.
Gone are the days Of Sports Day, and the annual School Day, And the one-month long preparations for them.
Gone are the days Of the stressful Quarterly, Half Yearly and Annual Exams, And the most enjoyed holidays after them.
Gone are the days Of tenth and twelfth standards, when we Spent almost the whole year writing revision tests.
Gone are the days We learnt, we enjoyed, we played, we won, we lost, We laughed, we cried, we fought, we thought.
Gone are the days With so much fun in them, so many friends, So much experience, all this and more.
Gone are the days But not the memories, which will be Lingering in our hearts for ever and ever and Ever and ever and Ever.
Signing off humming the nostalgic ghazal from the Ghazal Maestro, Jagjit Singh..
Ye daulat bhi le lo, ye shoharat bhi le lo bhale cheen lo mujhse meri jawaanii magar mujhko lauTaa do bachapan kaa saawan vo kaagaz ki kashtii, vo baarish kaa paanii
.. the words, the voice, the music, together they give me goose-bumps..seriously.... |

Me.. is the Birthday Girl!! |
Monday, July 17, 2006 |
Happy Birthday to me Happy Birthday to me Happy Birthday dear meee.eeee Happy Birthday to me!!!
Here is the cake for all of you.. it is making me hungry now!!
Did some thinking in the weekend and made some resolutions, not sure if it has got to do anything with me being a year older now and wiser (really!!)
My Birthday Resolutions (not necessarily in the same order)
1. Get the driving license (Everybody's grinning)
2. Be less egoistic
3. Don’t be insensitive to issues that seem very trivial to u but r BIG PROBLEMS to others.
4. Do not become overly sentimental about things.
5. Visit the temple once a week, (see you there, Abha & Sanjana!)
6. Not to dissect and analyze everything. look at the bigger picture.
7. Loose some weight (no intentions of writing a Bridget Jones diary)
8. Work out everyday…(healthy body..healthy mind, as they say)
9. Stop being judgemental.
10. Do not give undue importance to people who hurt u.
11. Be more open to change.
12. Make time for reading everyday.
13. Learn not to break the resolutions u make.
Uh oh..is 13 unlucky?? Couldn’t think of one more.. |

Holy Alphabet... This is Beautiful |
Friday, July 14, 2006 |
At the outset, let me express my heart felt condolences to the fellow citizens who have lost their loved ones in the Mumbai blasts and my wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured. No one should have to die or suffer this way in an ideal world but the reality is that we live in a very uncertain world, full of dangers and surprises(not-so-pleasant kind). May god give them enough strength to cope in this time of grief..

Introducing Calvin and Hobbes |
Tuesday, July 11, 2006 |
An all-time favourite comic strip..the child is irresistible..some interesting one-liners..
In my opinion, we don't devote nearly enough scientific research to finding a cure for jerks. -- Calvin Nothing spoils fun like finding out it builds character. -- Calvin Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewherein the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us. -- Calvin I take it there's no qualifying exam to be a Dad. -- Calvin

All Good Things Must come to an End |
Monday, July 10, 2006 |
The past month of a non stop weekend, holiday, party, all rolled into one for football fans around the world comes to an end...
It began over two years ago with 194 teams competing, trying to qualify for 32 spots in the final. After 910 games and more than 2,600 goals, we have a winner!! In an exciting final of the 2006 World Cup, Italy picked up its fourth title after defeating France in a penalty shoot out in the Olympia Stadium in Berlin.
For more than 2 hrs, 22 men in shorts kicking a ball mesmerised more then one billion people around the globe and Itlay earned the right to win the greatest prize in sports, the World Cup.. A well deserved win for Italy!! Maradona for sure would be saying, told you so...
Some facts about the trophy The trophy is 36 cm high, made of solid 18-carat gold and weighs 4,970 grams. The base contains two layers of semi-precious malachite and has room for 17 small plaques bearing the name of the winners - space enough for the World Champions up to the year 2038.
The current World Cup Trophy cannot be won outright, as the regulations state that it shall remain FIFA’s own possession. The World Cup winners retain it until the next tournament and are awarded a replica, gold-plated rather than solid gold. |

An Eternal Mystery!! |
Wednesday, July 05, 2006 |
Why is it that four days of holidays pass in the blinking of an eye, while five days of work doesn't? This particular thought has been bothering me from a verryyy long time.. It seems on a average, 95% of the thoughts that go through our minds, are the same as those that went through, the day before, thats what "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" says. Me borrowed the book from Abha, once I'm done reading this book, I'll fill the blog with more "gyaan" :) |

I am... |
Monday, July 03, 2006 |
-Praying.... that it is all going to be good, aaj ..kal ..and aanewala kal....fingers crossed.
-Disappointed…….what happened? Brazil lost to France in the Quarter Finals of Soccer World Cup, being the last world cup for Ronaldo, I wanted Ronaldo & Co. to play the finals. France enjoyed total supremacy and were the deserved winners but…….I’m so disappointed (who had imagined a 34-year-old would rise from the ashes to send the defending champions packing??)
-Bored……despite of some many things happening, each time I sit in front of the TV I’m bored beyond words….even programmes which were interesting to me, are now a bore……..
-Worried…..each time I have to do an Induction.. Oh Gawd! I have to do a presentation of 2 1/2 hrs this Friday and already I’m a little worried.
-Concerned…….about the cold weather here.. Yeah.. it was and is really, really cold and official records confirmed it saying the coldest June since 1972...
- Hoping..... for a not soo cold tomorrow..
-Busy(and bored at the same time?? Well that’s me.) I have lots of stuff to complete at work ….And I’m having couple of days off so just having nightmares about the increased work pile and an Inbox full of emails when I go back.
-Thinking about keeping my word and finishing the book " The Big Moo"
-Saying that’s all for now……till next time.. |
